Happy Holidays... and about the American Music Awards 2010

On our way to the Red Carpet
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We had a whirlwind past couple of weeks filled with travel, family, and one particularly exciting event... the American Music Awards! So, I will fill you in on some of the highlights of our awards weekend.

Our first event of the weekend was to watch the rehearsal for the show. It was so fun to see how the show comes together from behind the scenes. We watched Katy Perry rehearse for about an hour, and I'm pretty sure I could sing her Fireworks song backwards and forwards after that :) We also watched Train rehearsing Soul Sister.

The next event was the American Music Awards 2010 kickoff party which was a bowling event for charity. I had relatively low expectations for this especially because I am pretty much the world's worst bowler, no kidding... I was on a team with Lance Bass from NSYNC, so I got to hang out with him for a few hours, and it ended up being REALLY fun! I was in good company with my lack of bowling skills, but no one cared, we were just having a good time. My husband was on the bowling team with Michael Welch who played Mike Newton in the Twilight series of movies.
That's Lance Bass giving me a high five... most likely for not knocking down any pins.

Finally the big event! We walked the red carpet and loved every minute of it (except the COLD weather!!). We were able to see most of the big names on the red carpet, but unfortunately it became so crowded that it was hard to see who was around us. I found this especially funny as I was looking through pictures from the red carpet and noticed that my husband took a picture of me with Heidi Klum and the Black Eyed Peas were in the background literally right behind us but I didn't even realize it at the time because it was so crowded!

The show was AMAZING!!!! We were in the 3rd row-- such awesome seats! The energy was great, the performances were great; what an experience! To be able to witness up close the talent that some of these performers have just blew me away. I have to say I wasn't really into Justin Bieber before-- I thought his Baby song was cute and that's about it. Well, after seeing his performance, I think I caught the Bieber Fever-- what a talented kid! I was a little bit disappointed with Taylor Swift's performance... I guess I expected more. One of my favorite performances of the night would be the finale-- NKOTBSB (New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys). Part of what made this a favorite for me was the energy of the crowd-- practically everyone was standing up singing and dancing along to their blend of songs.

I know I have left alot out, but this is the brief synopsis of our experience at the American Music Awards 2010-- SOO fun!!

Something that makes my day :)

Here is just a random note of thanks... I'm always pleasantly suprised and thrilled when I come across something nice that a person has written about me or my dresses, it makes my day! Thank you!

Back from New York and Catching Up

It's been a little while since I've posted last... sorry! The contest is officially on... brides, why aren't more of you entering?! Especially those who have already purchased a dress from me during the contest-- you could get it for free! :) Well, there are still a few more months to go... maybe there are some procrastinators in the group?!

We just returned from New York and had a fantastic time! We did some shopping, got a little R&R and attended an Esquire Magazine party which was really quite the experience. Yes, we saw some famous faces- the beautiful Minka Kelly and her Yankees boyfriend Derek Jeter, and Chris Tucker to name a few. Incidentally, as we got off the elevator to go to our hotel room, Chris Tucker got off at the same time and was staying in the room right next to us. Ok, so we were dorks and asked him to take a picture with us- Chris was really friendly and chatted with us briefly. Unfortunately the picture of me with Chris Tucker is kind of blurry :(

2010 American Music Awards Here We Come!

It's official... my husband and I are going to be attending the 2010 American Music Awards, red carpet and all! Woo hoo! I'm so excited! I can't wait to see all of the talented musicians, but most of all... I can't wait to wear a fabulous dress :) I'm going to design several dresses and then I would like to get feedback from my loyal readers. So, feel free to give me your comments now- any and all are welcome! Should I go long or short? What color? When I have the dress choices, I'll post pictures and ask you to vote. So, stay tuned!

The Iris Modest Wedding Dress

The Iris modest wedding dress... I love this dress, and I know there are many happy brides out there who have chosen and loved this dress as well :) Where do I begin, there are so many great things about this dress (no, I'm not biased at all)! This is probably my most "fun" design yet, and it is a style that looks good on pretty much everyone, no matter what your body type. This style of modest wedding dress is perfect for a wedding in spring, summer or fall (or if you are lucky enough to live in a place that is warm all year round, anytime). The tea length and short cap sleeves keep you cool during those hot months, and allow for comfort AND style on your big day.

The Skirt:
The skirt has eight (yes, eight) layers of chiffon, satin, organza and crinoline; it just makes you want to twist and twirl. The skirt is so flowy and comfortable, you won't have to worry about whether or not you will actually be able to sit or move in your wedding dress.

The Neckline & Sleeves:
The bateau neckline is an elegant classic; it is not so modest that it is stifling, but gives you peace of mind so that you are not worried about having anything show that shouldn't. The sleeves are the perfect length of cap sleeves; long enough so that lds temple garments can be covered if necessary, but short enough that your arms won't be completely restricted in movement.

The Bodice:
Even though the dress itself is so flowy, the bodice is still structured with boning and lined with bra cups. The sash around the waist accentuates a small waist, or creates the appearance of a small waist.

The Details:
The chiffon covered buttons along the zipper line, the rouched sash and bow, and the organza peep underskirt come together to create a unique blend of vintage, modern and classic elegance for today's beautiful bride!
One more thing... the Iris wedding dress is named after my adorable niece, Iris!
The Iris Modest Wedding Dress by Abigail Wright Designs can be purchased here for $549.00.

My little black dress!

As I have mentioned, I'm working on modest special occasion dresses which can also double as modest bridesmaid dresses. My goal is to have modest occasion dresses that you can wear as a bridesmaid, but will also be glad to have in your closet when you have another occasion. Here is another dress that you will soon be able to purchase (in multiple colors of course); this is my modest little black dress. I love this dress and think it will be a big hit! It is black, made of taffeta with a v-neck in the front and back, cap sleeves, fitted bodice and box pleats on the skirt. The length falls just below the knee.

One of the perks of being a designer... I get to try out the samples! I got lots of compliments on this dress over the weekend when I wore it for an event in Chicago :)

Sneak Peak...

I can hardly contain myself, I'm so excited about some of the new styles that I'm working on! I have had lots of requests for modest bridesmaid dresses, modest formal dresses and modest (not so matronly) mother of the bride dresses, so I'm working on those for the Spring 2011 season in addition to some great new modest wedding dress styles. So... here is a sneak peak! This dress is tea length, and a variation on the ever popular Iris modest wedding dress. This version will be available in several different colors; the colors have yet to be determined... I welcome feedback on the colors that you want to see :) This particular dress was made for my dear sister- she's been wanting this dress for a long time, and finally has an occasion to wear it. Of course, I will later post some pictures of her in the dress.
